I had a dream that I was a performing clown in a circus act. As we [clowns] prepped for our big show it included airplanes, a disturbed ocean, beating and drenching rain, heights and extreme speed. None of that set fear in me as I prepared for our deceleration into the ring. What did scare me? That I wouldn’t have time to put my makeup on before we made our debut.
I appreciate what this dream brought so vividly to my attention.
Firstly, let’s just address the obvious.
Every mom is a ringmaster to their own circus. That’s an obvious. We also fill in any position when needed. We juggle, jump through hoops of burning fire, walk tight ropes, tame lions, do magic tricks. We even slap that red nose on our faces on many occasion to give a clown performance of a lifetime.
Please take a moment to meet my performers…

The thing is, because, well, there is always a thing… After the curtain closes the opening night we walk out of the ring with gained experience, confidence, strength, love, appreciation… Things that used to scare us are no longer a worry.
We walk a tight-rope high in the sky when we used to fear heights.
We are the windshield to drenching torrential rain when we used to duck for cover.
We are the surfboard in roaring waves when we used to just doggy paddle around calm waters.
We face our fears head on. No challenge goes unmet. And we do all of this, we are transformed to be able to do all of this by one remaining factor.
Our little performers.
Little do they know the strength they give us. Every. Single. Day. They light the fire that gives us the courage to jump through hoops and to break down walls of fear.
But before we face climbing onto the giant trampoline of ups and downs we take a moment. A moment to ourselves to maybe wash our face, put lotion on… maybe, just maybe, put a little makeup on…
Well, because, we are about to put the best damn show on this side of town and we are sure as hell gonna look damn good doing it.

I would love to showcase our circus acts in a follow up post!
And what a circus it is! We even dream about it! Never a break!
I really feel like a circus when it is time to load and unload my brood from the car! How many clowns can I fit in the van…..
