Yesterday was our first of two big moves. We have temporarily moved into a very cute, 2-level apartment in an awesome location. The downfall is that this is only a temporary move and we will be doing it all over again in a month… or two, or three? It’s all up in the air right now, but the next and final destination will be a new home address that we will be able to completely settle into. That’s exciting.
For any of you that are preparing a move with a toddler, just be ready for a lot re-packing. Presley has been very helpful with organizing nicely packed boxes and giving them her “special touch,” aka typhoon explosions. Her touch, however, has been a little more useful for unpacking. I know where to put things as well as she does, so it works for us.
I feel like unpacking gives you the opportunity to detox junk, although, I am trying to be careful about this. One of my pregnancy characteristics is to trash everything. Doesn’t matter what it is, Presley’s baby book? Absolute clutter. Trash. Just kidding its not that bad but it is bad. So I am trying to refrain. This is when I bring in the de-cluttering expert, my sister, Laura. She has no tolerance for it and will tell you the honest truth of what needs to go. Put your thick skin body suit on and get her in your house a.s.a.p. It will be beautiful when she’s done.
One challenge that we were confronted with was Presley and her crib. It didn’t fit up the stairs. The next option outside the crib was to put her in one of the twin’s smaller cribs, however, when I was unpacking some of her boxes, I turned around and she was randomly sitting in the crib reading a book. She climbed into it herself. We immediately put the kibosh on that idea. No falling out of crib accidents scheduled for this trip.
Our second attempt was to take her crib mattress and set it up on the floor. A little nerve-racking considering we were hesitant to setup her toddler bed just yet. We wanted her to adjust to wherever we ended up first. She went to bed just fine until about 15 minutes later when she started crying and freely walking out of bed.
The third and final attempt of the night was to move the mattress into our room next to our bed. She was all over the place. Tucking her dolls in, running around the room. Holy freedom. She did finally settle in. Rolled off the mattress about twice throughout the night. She was ok and I couldn’t help but laugh at her. I mean with her, although she wasn’t laughing. Imagine falling out of your bed. If I fell out of my bed I think I would be traumatized and probably not be able to stop laughing for the rest of the night. How do we not fall out of our beds more often?
Anyway, falling out of bed aside, we had a pretty good night. There were new house sounds that we have to get used to and Presley screamed once in the night. Which made me scream and Mark roll over and calmly say, “That’s not good.” Good to know what his reaction in an emergency will be like in the future. “The house is on fire? Let me think about getting up… Hmmm, thinking… I need a cup of coffee.” Other than that we are well into our new temporary home.
As I sit here, 6 months pregnant, wobbly and awkwardly unpacking things, with mixed emotional feelings… Who does this when they are pregnant? Are we on a vacation? Am I about to laugh or cry? There is a fine line, could go either way, I am just thankful for the 3 hours spent on the phone with xfinity to get our cable and internet working. How depressing would it be to be disconnected until our tentative appointment on Wednesday?! Couldn’t do it. Shockingly, neither could my husband. He really has technically grown. I don’t think I ever told you but when we met he didn’t own a computer! That quickly changed. Now his calendar is managed digitally, he has a Gmail account, a better smart phone than I do and says things like, “we can turn our iPhone into a Wi-Fi hotspot.” Who is this guy?
As I always say, onto the next adventure! To being fully adjusted by the time we have to move again and starting all over. I’m air cheers’ing you with my decaf coffee. When are they going to make something a little stronger for us preggos?

Oh man, we did this last summer with a temporary move from our sold house to a rental for 6 months and then a move again when I was 7 months pregnant. So sorry, but it looks like your little girl handled it like a champ! Good luck!
